STATEMENT OF NEED This activity is designed to help clinicians learn about advances in multimodal analgesia, to improve analgesia and recovery from surgery, while reducing complications; recent revisions to transfusion guidelines, including use of plasma and platelet concentrates; and to advise, lead, and possibly create policies and train non-anesthesia trained caregivers to provide safe sedation to children.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
Identify recent randomized clinical trials showing analgesia and outcome benefits from pharmacologic and regional anesthetic approaches to multimodal analgesia;
Identify treatments of massive blood loss; and
Identify current guidelines designed to improve the safety of infants, children, and adolescents undergoing sedation in the hospital and outpatient setting
CREDIT The Duke University School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 20.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
